Artist Statement

As an artist, I view wood as a living, breathing entity, its grains and textures revealing the story of the tree it once was. My work begins with a deep respect for the material itself—its imperfections, its unique patterns, its natural beauty. Intarsia has been my main focus of work, the process of cutting each shape in various wood species, shaping, sanding to create three dimensional works of art. In my Intarsia pieces, I strive to capture the delicate harmony between the wood's inherent qualities and the design I envision.
Recently, I have expanded into sculpture, exploring new dimensions of the wood’s potential and pushing my craft into more three-dimensional spaces. I see sculpture as a way to engage more directly with the form, allowing me to create works that exist in conversation with the viewer, provoking thought and emotion through texture, shape, and scale.
In all my work, I am driven by the belief that wood is not merely a medium, but a living force, full of stories waiting to be unearthed. I approach each piece with care and reverence, knowing that the work I create is as much a collaboration with the wood itself as it is with my own hands. Ultimately, my goal is to create work that feels connected to the natural world, where the materials I use are as much a part of the story as the designs I craft. Whether in Intarsia, sculpture, or painting, I strive to bring out the life in every piece, creating something that resonates with both the viewer and the wood itself.
